We’re all really sad to hear of the passing of Donald Mackenzie. Donald has contributed to the Lochalsh Art Fair every year since we started in 2009, and we always looked forward to seeing what he would bring to the exhibition. Always the unexpected! His highly popular pictures were like nobody else’s, always entertaining, but also subtle, and brilliantly painted.
He was a very highly regarded artist with work in the Kelvingrove and the V&A among others, and it was an absolute honour to have his work in our exhibitions. Donald was also a musician, and with his friend Harvey he provided live music at many LAF opening nights, playing on a fiddle he made himself.
We will all very much miss Donald’s presence at this year and future Art Fairs. Our condolences are with his partner Carol.
This year the Lochaslsh Art Fair will be at The Old Bakehouse Gallery at Create in Kyle. It’s an exciting new space and we’re really looking forward to a slight change of scene and a fresh look. We’re hoping to have a preview night on Saturday 18th September, and we’re looking into how that might work with on-going restrictions etc, and we’ll let you know about that nearer the time. Anyway, the exhibition will run from Sunday 19th through to Wednesday 22nd September, all being well. If you’ve exhibited before, you should shortly receive an email with more information. If you haven’t, and want to, please get in touch.
A bit of a change of plan -we’ve changed the date! It’s now going to be a little later than we said – in the week of 18th September. There will also be a change of venue this year – more info on that to follow…
We’re hoping this year we can run the Art Fair, and it’s looking good! So we’ve booked the hall and all being well the show will run from 28th August to 1st September. Looking forward to seeing you all and your new paintings!
You’ve probably guessed that this might happen! After some discussion the organisers have decided it would be best to cancel this years exhibition. A real shame, as we were looking forward to seeing this years local artistic output, but we think it is the right thing to do. Hopefully next year things will be back to some kind of ‘normal’ and by then, with two years worth of artworks to draw from the quality is likely to be exceptional. Can’t wait!
The 11th annual show was a another good one! About average in size but visitor numbers were up on last year and sales very good. Some new artists and lots of interesting new work, some of which will now be in homes in Lochalsh, Skye, Fife, Hampshire, Holland, Pennsylvania and California. Thank you so much everyone for supporting local art, and thanks in particular to everyone who helped out, especially Lindsay (for hanging the pictures) and Lis & John for the music.
Not long to go now til this years Art Fair… 23rd- 26th September – it’ll be in Dornie Hall as usual. If you are interested in contributing have a look at the info page on this site and/or email us and we’ll send you the details and a form.
